IDEAL WORK

2020

“This public art piece is created by using the model of Ideal Work, 1998 (concept by Richard Grayson and Steve Wigg; curated by Richard Grayson, Experimental Art Foundation, Adelaide, SA, Australia). [This work] will not be constrained by material, conceptual or budgetary limitations; [it] will exist as a description and visualization (photoshop, etc.). Like Ideal Work, 1998, [this work] consider a fictional, adventurous approach that consider approaches generally not experienced in the public art realm; unlike Ideal Work, 1998, [this piece] will be ‘situated’ somewhere [in the world].”

Flow, 2020

Location: Vale of Tempe, Greece

To honor the rich history and Greek mythology associated with the Vale of Tempe, this work alludes to the God of Seas, Poseidon, who split open the rocks to form the gorge, and implies the presence of the God of Sun, Apollo, who resided in the Vale of Tempe with his muses.

The wave-like structure spreading through the river is the modern rendition that symbolizes Poseidon and his power as the creator of the Vale of Tempe. Mirrors from the cylindrical rods reflect the sun, the sky and the green around it, to not only insert Apollo into the scene, but to camouflage the work. It becomes a part of the gorge, connecting the trees, the river and the space. To further signify the location as an advantageous strategic pass for ancient battles, this piece carves a specific path out for the boats that wish to travel down the river while experiencing the work and the scenery cohesively.
