TRAIN TO FORMOSA
PROJECT
Timeless Taiwan: Train to Formosa (2019) is one of the largest annual events hosted by Taiwanese Overseas Student Association (TOSA) under University of Washington. The activities in this event consisted of traditional Taiwanese games, a variety of performances and a small concert featuring a Taiwanese singer/song writer/music producer, Yen-J. Equally importantly, the event had many delicious and authentic Taiwanese food and snacks. This event successfully attracted around 1300 people.
This year our theme was "trains". I designed the poster and banner centered around the theme, using tracks as an element in combination with one of the event's biggest selling point - Taiwanese food. The logo mimics the traditional stamps that we used to see everywhere in Taiwan. The color tone sets to be welcoming and slightly nostalgic without the loss of being lively. The handwritten words aim to promote a sense of connection with the viewers.
Below are the decorations for the event.
The banners were for the names of the food and game booths. It is inspired by the design of one of the most popular and recognizable trains in Taiwan and made into the direction board one would see in a train station.
These signs are replications from the actual train stations that existed in Taiwan years ago, which the words adjusted to the event. In rural places where renovation has not happened yet, these signs still persist on the walls of the train stations.
